East Asia

Today I will be visiting two sites in East Asia. I will be spending my day in Bangkok, Thailand. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and is the hone to 8.28 million people.

Site 1 – The first site we visited was the Grand Palace. Since the reign of the Chakri Dynasty's first monarch, King Rama I, also known as Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke, in the 18th century, the Grand Palace has been a royal home in Bangkok. The Grand Palace, with its well-known Thai-style architecture and a total area of over 200,000 square meters, is one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations. From 1782 to 1809, King Rama I ruled over Thailand, moving the capital from Thonburi to its current location and constructing the Grand Palace as his house and offices. Construction of the palace began in 1782, but it was continuously expanded over the years, particularly during King Chilalongkorn. The royal family and government had moved out of the Grand Palace by 1925, particularly after the monarchy was overthrown in 1932. A tour to the Grand Palace, which is made up of a number of structures including government offices, monasteries, and a museum, can take hours. When we entered the palace complex, we were in the outer court, which used to house government ministries but now includes the famous Emerald Buddha Chapel.

Site 2 – Our second site was Ancient Siam. Ancient Siam, or Muang Boran in Thailand, is a privately owned museum park that extends 200 acres and is said to be the world's largest outdoor museum. Ancient Siam, which is shaped like Thailand, is nearly a whole reconstruction of the country, and contains miniature replicas and reconstructions of most of the country's most significant sites in their proper locations. Lek Viriyaphant was an unusual businessman and millionaire who was motivated to create the Ancient City of Siam by his passion for art. His original intention was to build a golf course in the shape of Thailand with replicas of ancient landmarks for tourists. However, after doing some research, Lek discovered that many historic sites had been left to deteriorate, so he changed his intent to make Ancient Siam a place of teaching. As a result, the Ancient City of Siam historically showcases key architectural styles from Thailand's different eras, from prehistoric through Ancient Khmer and Dvaravati. In 1963, the park was built.
